The Epiphany Proclamation 2014 and Date of Easter

As an Anglican, actively involved and worshipping at Saint Paul's Church, Manningham, which strives to be at the heart of the community making known the love of God revealed in the uniqueness of Jesus Christ.

People may be surprised that when I have the time which is not very often! I sometime attend St Chad’s Church, Toller Lane, which is a traditional Anglo-Catholic in nature and use the English Missal at most Masses.

The Adoration of the Magi
One of the nicest things when I’ve attended before on Epiphany Sunday is the Epiphany Proclamation and Date of Easter.

While a day like Christmas is fixed in our minds and on the calendars on December 25th, many of the important feasts of the Church year move, based upon the date that Easter is set. Easter changes each year moving to the Sunday after the "Paschal Full Moon," and can fall between March 22nd and April 25th.

In ancient times before calendars were common, most people did not know the dates and it was a useful marker of the Liturgical year, and is a tradition which should, be maintained.

During the liturgy on the Feast of the Epiphany, some Anglo-Catholic Church's in the Church of England proclaim the date of Easter as well as other feast and fast dates.

The Proclamation announces more than dates, it proclaims the reality that our lives are to be lived in rhythm with and according to Jesus’ life.

Here is the Epiphany Proclamation 2014 and Date of Easter proclamation for this liturgical year:
Dear brothers and sisters, the glory of the Lord has shone upon us, and shall ever be manifest among us, until the day of His return.

Through the rhythms of times and seasons let us celebrate the mysteries of salvation.

Let us recall the year’s culmination, the Easter Triduum (Paschal) of the Lord: His Last Supper, His Crucifixion and Death, His Burial, and His Rising, to be celebrated between the evening of the 17th day of April and the evening of the 19th day of April, Easter Sunday being on the 20th day of April.

Each Easter - as on each Sunday - the Holy Church makes present the great and saving deed by which Christ has forever conquered sin and death. From Easter are reckoned all the days we keep holy.
Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, will occur on the 5th day of March.

The Ascension of the Lord will be commemorated on the 29th day of May.

Pentecost, the joyful conclusion of the season of Easter, will be celebrated on the 8th day of June.

And this year the First Sunday of Advent will be on the 30th day of November.

Likewise the pilgrim Church proclaims the Passover of Christ in the feasts of the holy Mother of God, in the feasts of the Apostles and Saints, and in the commemoration of the faithful departed.

To Jesus Christ, who was, who is, and who is to come, Lord of time and history, be endless praise, for ever and ever. Amen
